🇿🇦✊ YOUTH DAY ART FUNDRAISER ✊🇿🇦
June 16th is more than a public holiday.
It is a day etched in history.
On the same day 50 years ago, in 1976, thousands of young people in Soweto, a township here in South Africa, took to the streets to protest against an education system designed to oppress them.
They were brave. They were bold. They knew their rights — and they fought for them. Youth Day exists to honour that courage, and to remind us that young people have always had the power to change the world. 💛
That spirit lives on today - because the fight for equal access to education is not over.
Across South Africa, girls are still missing school. Not because they don’t want to be there. But because of their period.🩸
Fear of leaking. No sanitation facilities. No products. Silence. Shame. Period poverty is real, it is widespread, and it is quietly stealing girls’ confidence, dignity, and futures.
Menstrual health is not a luxury. It is a human right.
For almost a decade, I’ve had the privilege of partnering with schools and NGOs, working with children, youth, parents, and communities to break the stigma, educate young people about their bodies, including trying to ensure that no girl is held back because of her period. 💜
This Youth Day - in fact for the rest of the month of June - you too can be part of the change. I’m partnering again with @ladytalkmatters to help fund packs of reusable pads which not only help a girl navigate her periods with ease and dignity but also to fund workshops to educate both boys and girls on their bodies during adolescence.
🎨 Join me at my Youth Day Art Fundraiser - where creativity meets courage, and every purchase helps keep a girl in school and children learn more about their growing bodies.
Because when we honour the brave young people of 1976, we honour every young person still fighting to be seen, heard, and educated today.
