Oil on canvas

It was easy to find a title for this one! I not only had limited time (uninterrupted working hours of an ‘active’ parent of three children are rare) but I also really wanted to capture the energy of the water in this painting.

It is a painting made with loose brushstrokes, from memory and imagination combined, using sketches as reference. I wanted to emulate the urgency of the water too so I chose to work in acrylic, knowing I’d have to work faster (as the layers dry much faster than oils) and in a more gestural way. Fast, bold strokes, big brushes, allowing for paint to splatter and splash. It was great fun to do and I hope the viewer enjoys the playful nature of the composition, bolder palette and techniques I’ve used.
