Waterfalls, rivers and streams are recurring motifs in my work and the range of characteristics of water in nature never ceases to inspire me.

This particular kloof is a favourite of mine, as its character changes so dramatically at different times of year, especially when there has been rain. But, no matter what time of year, there always seems to be some kind of presence of water. And that is a great source of both joy and comfort to me.

The title of the work alludes to both my artistic process (not allowing myself to get sucked into the detail – but rather to try and loosen up, relax and enjoy the process) as well as the subject of the composition itself.
