“Imagine everything you can imagine, then keep on going” is a pivotal line from Mary Oliver’s poem “At the River Clarion” (from Evidence, 2009). The poem describes a moment when the writer was sitting on a stone in the Clarion River, listening to the voices of nature – the water, stones, and moss – all teaching her about interconnectedness. I wanted to attempt a painting which conveyed the same sense of wonder and peace one can achieve when taking a moment to sit and listen. To pay attention to one’s immediate surrounds.
