This painting was inspired by a line taken from W.B. Yeats’ poem, “The Land of Heart’s Desire” (1894). The line is sung by the faeries (the “good people”) to entice a young bride away from her human life into the “Land of Faery,” where they promise she will never grow old, grave, or wise. Just like Yeats’s poem, this work is entirely fictional. I wanted to create a woodland scene which suggests a cool, hidden, and mystical place.
